Originally El Mirador Hotel, built in 1932, the facility was bought by the U.S. Army in 1942 and converted to 1,600 bed Tourney General Hospital for wounded soldiers. In 1952 it reopened as a hotel and was purchased by Desert Healthcare District in 1972 as part of a transformation to a modern hospital.
